While the deer around Monas monument are dying because heartless officials cannot be bothered to give them food, water and care, any concern about the Komodo is utter and complete hypocrisy.

Calm down everyone! This is just what one would regard a public campaign, if not simply a public relations move - in the case of Komodo becoming one of seven world wonderland, our Nusantara benefits, but so does the N7WF. Why not try an independent effort: persuade the millions of Facebookers and Tweeters in this country to send a line or two to the many more fellow-Facebookers and Tweeters around the world about the many parts of Indonesia being earth's nirwana. At least, as a first step, target fellow Indonesians (some of whom habitually frequented cities across the border).

There's yet another opportunity rapidly looming for Indonesia - N7W is starting a Seven Top Cities of the World (STCW) 'campaign' starting in January 2012. Who in their right mind would count against Jakarta making the STCW winners list?

The preliminary results are out and it shows the Komodo National Park as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature, according to the New7Wonders Web site. 

The list, given in alphabetical order, includes the Amazon, Halong Bay, Iguazu Falls, Jeju Island, the Puerto Princessa Underground River and Table Mountain. 

The list was posted at around 2 a.m. Jakarta time, about six hours after the close of voting on Friday. 

"It is possible that there will be changes between the above provisional winners and the eventual finally confirmed winners," the statement on the organization's Web site says.

It adds that the voting calculation is being checked, validated and independently verified, and the confirmed winners will be announced starting early 2012 during the Official Inauguration ceremonies. 

Even in the final hours of voting on Friday, controversy continued to cloud the Komodo National Park’s bid to become one of the world’s New Seven Wonders of Nature. 

The Committee for the Rule of Law (KSHI), a group of 40 lawyers, has filed a class action lawsuit demanding that the New7Wonders Foundation and the NGO Supporters for a Komodo Victory (P2Komodo), return any profits from their publicity endeavors to pay for the conservation of the Komodo Islands. 

“The return of all proceeds is one point in the class action that we filed on Thursday,” KSHI chief Achmad Salim said in Jakarta on Friday. 

He said the increased popularity of the Komodo Islands since they appeared in the competition meant there was a surge of tourism to the area, and that this posed a threat to the delicate ecosystem. 

Achmad said the KSHI filed the lawsuit following several complaints that text message charges were frequently changed. “We want all proceeds from the text message fees to be used to support conservation efforts,” he said. 

Emmy Hafild, the head of P2Komodo, recently dismissed claims that SMS voting was not recognized by the New7Wonders organization and was fraudulent. 

Emmy rescued the bid of the Komodo National Park after the Indonesian government’s dispute with the organizers. Votes for the home of the prehistoric dragons skyrocketed after SMS voting was introduced in August. 

New7Wonders of Nature, a Swiss foundation, organized the worldwide poll where anyone could vote for their favorite sites. 

Million of votes have been cast since 2007, with 440 contenders in more than 220 countries trimmed to the 28 finalists. 

Founded in 2001 by Bernard Weber in Zurich, the New7Wonders foundation is based on the same principle on which the seven ancient wonders of the world were established by Philon de Byzance in ancient Greece.
