Is the KPK under secret orders from the Yudhoyono family that is so very jealous of all the genuine popularity that the Sultan enjoys? This move is so low, it's despicable. Besides, the gifts were for the Sultan's DAUGHTER, not for him. As someone with Javanese blood in her veins, I fully support the Yogyakarta Sultanate, and would join other right-minded Javanese in applause if Yogyakarta secedes from the ungrateful Republic of Indonesia.

It is not laughable. I support KPK. The Sultan is also a Governor of a province, therefore he is a government official. KPK did this as well when President's first son was getting married in 2005, and KPK shall request the same when President's second son is getting married next month.

But surely the gifts were for his daughter and her husband?

Man this country is a total F up.

This truly is laughable indeed! C'mon KPK! The guy's royalty and I am seeing this reminder as "cheap" PR. Bad deal with the Mayor of Bogor affair? :-(

Yogyakarta’s Sultan Hamengkubuwono X must report all gifts he received for his daughter’s wedding, an official at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said on Tuesday.

The reminder was deemed necessary because some people may use the event to give lavish gifts to the Sultan, who is also the governor of Yogyakarta, in exchange for favors.

“The KPK’s suggestion is because the Sultan is the governor of Yogyakarta. He is obligated to report anything he receives to the KPK,” one of the agency’s deputy chairman, M. Jasin, said.

According to him, the Sultan must report all the gifts within 30 days after they are received.

“It is in accordance to Article 12B in Law 31/1999 about corruption eradication,” Jasin said, adding the Sultan should be aware of the obligation.

“As a leader and public figure, the Sultan must set an example to the people about obeying the law,” he said.

The wedding ceremony of the Sultan’s daughter, GKR Bendara and KPH Yudhanegara is in full swing. More than 3,500 guests are expected to attend the reception. The royal couple will also be paraded around Yogyakarta late in the afternoon.
