Facepalm

Its part of the negotiation as to how small a sentence he will get - the more he knows or implies he knows the less term in jail he will get... corkscrew justice matey - I suspect he may get 12 months maybe less

Also by presenting this surely it is an admission of guilt... Receipts for bribe money... I wonder if he claimed against his tax too??

Nazaruddin's lawyers sound like a clever lot.

Copies of receipts for bribes allegedly paid by Democratic Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum cannot be considered valid evidence in the trial of Muhammad Nazaruddin, the graft suspect who revealed their existence, an official said on Thursday.

Bambang Widjojanto, a deputy chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), said the 16 receipts shown to reporters by former Democratic treasurer Nazaruddin on Wednesday were not introduced by a trial witness, and thus could not be used in Nazaruddin’s favor.

“In any trial, any revelation uncovered by a witness can be used as evidence in favor of the defendant, but if the revelation comes from the defendant, it can only be treated as incriminating evidence to prove his guilt,” he said.

However, he did say the evidence could be investigated further for use in ongoing and future probes by the KPK.

“It will be treated as a lead, which means we will have to verify it first,” Bambang said. “The process can’t be rushed,”

Nazaruddin is standing trial for allegedly taking a bribe in a bid-rigging case linked to the construction of the athletes’ village for last month’s Southeast Asian Games.

He previously accused Anas of corruption in another project, the construction of Hambalang Stadium in Bogor, and has claimed that Democratic legislator Angelina Sondakh extorted bribes in the same athletes’ village case for which he is on trial.

“These receipts are proof. For the originals, ask Anas because he is the one holding them,” Nazaruddin said on Wednesday.

On Thursday, he said he explained to KPK investigators all about the Hambalang project and how Anas had allegedly taken a bribe from state-owned construction firm Adhi Karya to give it the contract for the project.

He also claimed that Anas then used the money to fund his successful bid for the Democratic Party chairmanship at the party’s national caucus in 2010.

Nazaruddin has also accused Saan Mustofa, the Democratic deputy secretary general, of distributing the money as bribes in exchange for votes for Anas.

“I’ve already told them everything, from where the money came from to who passed it on and where — everything,” Nazaruddin said after being questioned at the KPK office.

He added that he was also quizzed about other projects awarded to Adhi Karya, including the construction of a tax office building and an electricity grid in East Kalimantan.
