The Corruption Eradication Commission on Monday summoned former state-owned enterprise minister Laksamana Sukardi in connection with three irregular procurement cases inside state-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara between 2000 and 2006.
Arriving at the headquarters of the commission, also known as the KPK, at about 10 a.m., Laksamana told reporters that he had been summoned as a witness against Eddie Widiono, a former PLN president director, who the commission suspects manipulated the tender processes to procure a customer management system in Jakarta, East Java and Lampung.
Eddie, former PLN East Java general manager Hariyadi Sadono and former PLN Lampung general manager Budi Harsono have been charged with illegal procurement and budget inflation which cost the state more than Rp 91 billion ($10 million) in losses.
Hariyadi was sentenced to six years in prison in March while senior officials from PT Arthi Duta Aneka Usaha, PT Intercity Kerlipan and PT Altelindo Karyamandiri, the providers of the system, are now on trial at the Anti-Corruption Court.
Laksamana was declared a suspect by the Attorney General’s Office in late 2008 after the prosecutors’ office discovered indications of graft related to the sale of two oil tankers belonging to state oil and gas firm Pertamina in 2004.
The case was dropped in January, 2009, much to the criticism of politicians, particularly from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).
Laksamana is the joint founder of the Democratic Development Party (PDP), a party that formed after splitting with PDI-P.
PDP failed to garner any seats in the House during the 2009 legislative elections.
