Indonesian celebrity Luna Maya is back on Twitter. Her account, lunmay, on the microblogging site was active again on Wednesday after it was shut down a few weeks ago following an angry tweet where she labeled entertainment reporters as being “lower than prostitutes, murderers.”
The actress had not written any new tweets and the last message on her account was an apology she wrote after her controversial attack.
“I’m sorry for the insignificant tweet. I thank those of you who understand and for those of you who don’t, I’m sorry,” she wrote on December 15.
However, despite her apology, the damage was considered done and the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) reported the actress to police for violating the Electronic Transaction and Information (ITE) Law, as well as unpleasant conduct. Soon after the police report was lodged, support flourished for Luna Maya online. Numerous Facebook pages were dedicated to her.
On Tuesday, Minister for Communication and Information Tifatul Sembiring said that Luna Maya was not guilty of defamation.
According to Tifatul, Luna did not specifically mention any institutions or individuals in her message.
“I don’t think she violated any law because she did not mention any names or institutions,” Tifatul said.
Tifatul said the ITE Law was not created for cases like Luna Maya’s.
“I have to stress that ITE Law was created to guarantee security in electronic transactions and to prevent online crimes such as hacking or credit card forgery,” he said.

So - three months of "investigation" and the police were "too late"? Something doesn't add up here.
