Police in West Kalimantan say they have foiled a smuggling attempt involving 6.8 kilograms of methamphetamine coming into Indonesia.

According to the head of Sanggau Police in Pontianak, Sr. Comr. I Wayan Sugiri, the operation followed after a tip-off from authorities in neighboring Malaysia.

Tarmiji, 30, a resident of Mempawah Hilir, also in Pontianak, was caught with the illegal substance near the Entikong border crossing in Sanggau district, Wayan said.

“On Saturday, we arrested Tarmiji based on the information we received. We found 6.8 kilograms of methamphetamine in his luggage,” he said.

Tarmiji was using a rental car and had already passed the border crossing. During questioning, he admitted to obtaining the methamphetamine in Malaysia and said he planned to send the drugs to Jakarta. An alleged accomplice, Hari Rabuan, was also arrested. Police said the two had already successfully transported meth from Malaysia five times.
