What are the odds of the Mayor of Bogor emigrating to Kelantan together with his wives, in order to collect his reward? Such a move may be popular in Bogor, based on protests against the Mayor's recent marriage to a teenager!

Kuala Lumpur. A conservative Malaysian state is considering rewarding “good” Muslim men who declare their polygamous status and are able to take good care of their multiple households.

Northeast Kelantan state councilor Wan Ubaidah Omar says many men keep their polygamous marriages a secret from their existing spouses, causing marital conflicts.

She said Wednesday the state is looking at providing incentives to recognize “good” polygamous husbands who can be role models for others.

Muslim men in mainly Muslim Malaysia can have up to four wives at one time but need consent from their existing spouses.

Some husbands hold secret weddings elsewhere, causing problems when they return home with their additional wives.

Kelantan recently offered to reward men who take single mothers as their second wife, as long as they first obtained permission from their current wife or wives.
