Jakarta. Authorities here will assist Malaysian police in locating an Indonesian migrant worker sought in connection with the murder of a 15-month-old boy in her care, a Manpower Ministry official said on Thursday.

Rosstiawati, director of protection for overseas workers at the ministry, said she would cooperate with the labor attache at the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to assist the Malaysian police in their investigation.

“We will keep an eye on this case,” she said.

A 25-year-old Indonesian maid is believed to have trampled 15-month-old Tan Jin Yang in Puchong, Kuala Lumpur, and left him unconscious, The Star Online reported. The maid then called Yang’s father and told him that his son had fallen ill.

A relative found the child and rushed him to the hospital but it was too late. The boy was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Malaysian news portal reported that an autopsy found major internal injuries, including strangulation marks on the neck, a lung infection, internal brain hemorrhaging and bruises.

The maid, who was not identified, had been working for the family for two years, and had disappeared, The Star reported.

“At one point, the parents suspected that their son was being abused when one of his legs was fractured, but they did not follow through on their suspicions,” a police officer was quoted as saying,

Rosstiawati said the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur would provide legal assistance for the maid if she were found and arrested.

“We have to really investigate what has happened; whether or not our worker is really guilty,” she said.
