After being in Jakarta for less than 24 hours, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine has already made his presence felt.

Levine has shaken the Jakarta microblogging community through his tweets — with one of them bringing about the trending topic “good night Jakarta.”

A single tweet by the singer verified that the star had arrived, sparking an online frenzy from his enthusiastic Indonesian fans.

As he made his way from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, the singer tweeted: “Traffic in Jakarta is the worst! Right?” It wasn't the most sympathetic of tweets, but Levine fans love his honesty.

The vocalist will rock Istora Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday night, along with band-mates  Jesse Carmichael (keyboard), Mickey Madden (bass), James Valentine (guitars) and Matt Flynn (drums).

Maroon 5 has come a long way from Carmichael’s garage to — as stated in Levine’s Twitter account while he is in Jakarta — “new and exotic places”.

Maroon 5 won a Grammy in 2005 as Best New Artist, and have been a regular winner and nominee ever since. The single “She Will be Loved” from the first album “Songs About Jane” helped the band from Los Angeles, California, skyrocket to fame.

The Jakarta Globe talked with Valentine and Madden at a meet-and-greet at a South Jakarta hotel.

“The first thing that flashed in my mind about Indonesia was the beautiful landscape, with the paddy fields,” the 33-year old Valentine said. “We always know the many fans that we have in Indonesia through Facebook and Twitter. Finally, we’re here.”

Madden said his favorite song to play live was “Stutter”, while Valentine picked “The Sun” as his number one.

“Today, selling songs is not what they used to be,” Valentine said. “People don't buy music like they did before.

“We are aware of the piracy and illegal downloading. We can only be happy to know that the fans in some ways are still supporting us. Our tickets were sold out.”
