It is not about the age really, isn't it... it is about the lack of dignity to run again and again after being voted out of office after half term. There should be a ban to re-run for those that held and were voted out of office. ANYWHERE else in the world that is a normal thing. Here it is tidak tahu malu...

How long does it take until this lady finally notices that the Indonesian people JUST DONT WANT HER AS PRESIDENT... it is just unbelievable...

One has to wonder whether Aburizal Backrie, who is a couple of months older than Megawati, would also 'laugh off' an observation to the effect that he would be too old to run for President in 2014.

Taufik Kiemas says there was no domestic drama after he said his wife, Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chairwoman Megawati Sukarnoputri, would be too old to run for president in 2014.

“She didn’t say anything, she only laughed,” Taufik said on Tuesday. “There was no frowning. We are used to having differences of opinion.”

Taufik is a senior executive with the PDI-P and the chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR).

He had noted that Megawati, a former president, would already be 68 in 2014, and added that younger politicians should be given a chance.

“A leader has to think about the next generation, while politicians only think about the next election,” he said.

He had previously said that around 80 percent of the legislators at the House of Representatives and at the Regional Representatives Council were under 45 and should be given the chance to prove themselves as leaders.

Taufik said his call for younger candidates in 2014 had nothing to do with aspirations for his daughter, Puan Maharani, who is being groomed by the party to replace her mother.

“I never said anything about Puan,” he said. “All members of the younger generation can run.”

Taufik’s remarks on Monday spurred a public debate, with some people saying that age should not be a barrier to a political career, and others arguing that it was time for some new blood to lead the country. Arientha Primanita
