Miss Indonesia Fails to Pick Up Fast-Tracks Before Saturday's Final
The final of the Miss World 2009 competition will take place on Saturday in Johannesburg, South Africa, but so far Miss Indonesia has failed to win a fast track to the final in any of the four lead-up competitions before the main event.
Indonesia's Kerenina Sunny Halim is one of 112 women competing to take over the crowd from current Miss World, Kseniya Sukhinovia from Russia.
The contestants have been taking part in a monthlong tour in South Africa since November 14 and competing in cultural, sporting and talent events.
Eruza Sasaki from Japan won the sportswoman competition and has been fast-tracked into the semi-final top 20. Second place in the sporting competition went to Jamaica and third place to Hungary.
Kerenina’s hip-hop dance failed to impress the judges in the talent competition, which was taken out by Canada and Sierra Leone.
Lena Ma from Canada performed a classical song, showing incredible vocal range and control, while Mariatu Kargbo from Sierra Leone performed a Chinese dance and fire-eating routine. Miss Korea came third with a ballet dance, Miss Norway finished fourth, singing the song ‘Only Hope’ from the film ‘A Day to Remember’, and Miss Australia took fifth place with a yoga-inspired dance.
Kaiane Aldorino from Gibraltar won the Miss World Beach Beauty competition. The victory sent Gibraltar to the semi-final for the first time.
Perla Beltran from Mexico won the Miss World Top Model contest. Beltran will also be fast tracked to the semi-finals.
The Miss World 2009 Final will take place at Gallagher Convention Center and will be presented by one of China’s leading television personalities, Angela Chow, South African television host Michelle McLean and Miss World Event Director Steve Douglas. They will be joined by a special guest from India, former Miss World Priyanka Choprar.
