Miss Indonesia 2009, Qory Sandioriva, visited earthquake victims in Padang, West Sumatra, on Sunday.

During her visit, Qory presented aid to earthquake victims and held a discussion with them at the Kurao Pagang disaster relief command post in Padang.

The donations consisted of cash, tents and food.

Qory said she had come to Padang because she was touched by the plight of the earthquake victims.

“It was a powerful earthquake and so many people have become victims,” she said.

She said she was glad she could visit the earthquake victims and share the grief of those who had lost property and relatives and hug the mothers among the victims.

An earthquake measuring 7.9 rocked West Sumatra on Wednesday Sept. 30, killing more than 1,000 people.

Although aid has been flowing in since the disaster, hundreds of thousands of people still need tents for temporary shelter.

According to Ahmad Gazali, an activist from local NGO Kabisat, about 200,000 tents are still required in the region.
