Kuala Lumpur. Indonesian workers in Malaysia are trying to raise the money to repatriate the body of an Indonesian woman who was killed in a hotel in the Malaysian capital on Sunday.

The body of Rumiyati, 34, who worked at a restaurant in Kuala Lumpur, is still at the morgue because her family in Indonesia can’t afford the hospital bill and transfer cost to bring her home.

Some of her fellow Indonesian workers in the capital are rallying to try and raise the 4,000 Malaysian ringgits ($1,300) needed. They had collected 1,000 ringgits as of Thursday.

“We want to help bring the body home,” said Basori Kastar, from Pasomaja, an association of Indonesian workers in Malaysia.

“We hope that other colleagues can contribute. Also, we are calling on the Indonesian Embassy to also help.”

According a local media report, Rumiyati checked into a hotel on Jalan Raja Laut with her boyfriend on Sunday. Her body was found nine hours later, stuffed in a bag.

She is believed to have left her workplace at about 2p.m. on Sunday before heading to the hotel to meet her boyfriend.

A worker at the hotel who was cleaning the room the victim had checked into spotted the bag and opened it.

He called the police upon finding the body at about 11:30 p.m.

Dang Wangi Police chief Mohd Zulkarnain Ibrahim told the Sun Daily that a postmortem report revealed that the victim had died of strangulation.

He said the police also learned that the woman had arrived in Malaysia about six months ago.

Investigators have identified her suspected killer, who is also non-Malaysian, and are on the lookout for the man, the police chief said.

Indonesian authorities have yet to issue an official comment on the case.
