384850ChiefK123........have to agree. Surely it is the responsibility of the press to dig out the whole truth. It could be for example that this is only the tip of a very large iceberg. Maybe JG you need to your feet and not just the telephone to get the full story.
Apparently this seems to be a common occurrence. A friend who works in the medical profession says she is not surprised as it is common in many hospitals to arrange the baby sale for people too poor to pay the hospital bills. Another established mafia in the lucrative baby trafficking market ?. We have so many entrenched mafias anyway. The most notorious being the judicial mafia....We have to ask ourselves one thing. Where is this country going ?
I mostly enjoy and respect the Jakarta Globe, but stories like this make me seriously question their journalistic integrity. In both this and the *other* story today about babies being sold to pay hospital bills, there was apparently no attempt made to get the hospitals' side of the story. At least something like 'The hospital administration did not answer our requests for comments' or something to show you tried. I'm not saying the women in the stories are lying, but their stories are so shocking that I would guess there's more to them. It feels like the JG is more interested in printing shocking, controversial headlines than getting to the truth of the matter, which is pretty much the worst sin in journalism, at least IMHO.
Indonesian government is full of omong kosong but never addresses any of the real problems.
To busy chasing duit.
Is this type of kidnapping considered legal?
What an utter disgrace - for the hospital! It makes me sick to the guts to hear similar stories about people being held against their will in hospitals (and in addition burdened with an extra fee for every day!) because they simply cannot pay their bills.
Where's the social welfare to ensure that citizen of this country get proper medical treatment (or any medical treatment at all!) if they don't have enough money.
Shame on this hospital (as I know Sanglah hospital is even a government hospital and not some private clinic!)!!!

Denpasar. A desperate mother being held against her will in a hospital in Bali because she cannot pay her medical bills says she will sell her baby to help cover the delivery expenses.
Munawaroh, a washer women, said on Thursday that she was resigned to the fact she would have to sell her only child to cover her Rp 6 million ($660) medical bill at Darma Sari Hospital in Denpasar.
“What is important is that I get out of the hospital,” she said, adding that her bill grew by Rp 1.5 million for each additional day she remained a virtual prisoner.
She said that the baby, born prematurely after her amniotic sac ruptured, was ill and needed intensive treatment.
Munawaroh, a Surabaya woman who had been living in Bali for three years, said her husband, who has been married seven times, had disappeared after the birth, leaving only his identification card at the hospital.
She said she believed her husband, Hartoyo, a laborer, had returned to his sixth wife, who was also pregnant.
Her ill child had been transferred to the intensive care unit of Sanglah Hospital but an official contacted by the Jakarta Globe could not say whether the baby was being treated or not.
