It's always the same.

The road repairs begin around the same time as the rainy season.

Utter incompetence..

@mcculdr: the reason why they are doing the constructions at the end of the year (which happens to be in rainy season), well, because they're trying to finish off their yearly budget! Poor planning as always, unprofessional!

Quote by Jakarta Police First. Brig. Sunar: "The victims were not heavily injured," he said of Tuesday’s crash. "Most of them only have bruises on their legs."

This is the true mentality of Indonesian officials, they always oversimplify every problem and never think it's a big deal, because:

1. they simply don't know how it feels, because they don't ride their motorcycles and crash there. The common citizens, like Anti and 34 other motorcyclists (who btw happen to pay the police's salary with their hard-earned tax money), they fell down, crashed, and had bruises on their legs.

2. they simply don't care. it's not their problem.. yet, maybe not until there is fatality when somebody crash and die there! When that happens, it's already bloody TOO LATE!!

Why didn't they do this during the dry season? Did it just occur to them at the onset of the rainy season there might be a need for better drainage?

Drivers on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman in South Jakarta would be advised to exercise caution: Since drain construction began on the road in November, there have been at least 35 accidents involving motorcycles, including one on Tuesday morning.

Anti, a 19-year-old motorist, crashed on Tuesday when she lost control of her motorbike after riding over a section of road that was ripped up to allow for the installation of large storm drains.

“After I fell down, three other motorcyclists fell down almost at the same time,” she said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

Jakarta Police First. Brig. Sunar confirmed that there have been several accidents along the road on Tuesday morning. He added that police have recorded 35 motorcycle accidents since the large-scale construction project began.

“The victims were not heavily injured,” he said of Tuesday’s crash. “Most of them only have bruises on their legs.”

The drainage system —stretching from Kali Krukut to the BRI Tower, is the work of the Jakarta City Administration in a bid to anticipate and prevent flooding during the rainy system. However, the construction has damaged the road and resulted in even worse traffic congestion than usual.

Herning Wahyuningsih, head of the water division at the Central Jakarta Public Works Agency, admitted that the drainage construction was making driving conditions more dangerous.

She said that work was behind schedule due to heavy rains recently, but that construction as targeted to be completed by Monday.
