Where to start with this one. . . So much stupidity, so little integrity. I think the MUI's logic is the same misogyny that justifies female genital mutilation. Those rabid sex workers are just chomping at the bit to fornicate with wild abandon, and should they get their lusty hands on a pile of condoms, God fearing men would never be safe. Clearly the answer is to snip off their genitalia and reduce their sexual appetite. Mass circumcisions courtesy of MUI and city council! That would be a fitting Islamic way to stimulate a career change for these she-devils. But what to do with waria? The invisible 3rd sex was not even mentioned in this article. Perhaps MUI and Tangerang council are both in denial about waria's existence and their equally high vulnerability to AIDS? 12500 condoms is hardly practical for starters. Nothing less than a free clinic with a limitless supply is either fair or appropriate. Prostitution is one of the oldest trades in the history of mankind, and like porn it's not going away so these 'modern' theocrats better wise up and get in touch with their civic duties in the real world.

The MUI should move its headquarters to Rome.

MUI should try being the sex workers and see if free condoms do make them more active in that business!

Same charade with all monotheistic religions.

To avoid the spread of HIV/AIDS is abstinence from SEX or stay in a monogamous relationship. No more trips to the bordello!! Does the MUI understand this logic? Doubtful!!

Therefore the distribution of free condoms and HIV prevention awareness are very important should they believe that their city is a smart and modern city.

The MUI obviously need some education on the issue as their views are pretty much in opposition to all the actual evidence from around the world.

Tangerang. The South Tangerang Branch of the Indonesia Ulema Council spoke out on Tuesday against a move by health authorities to distribute free condoms to sex workers to help halt the spread of HIV/AIDS in the city close to Jakarta.

“Distributing contraception means legalizing the existence of female sex workers in South Tangerang,” said Abdul Rozak, secretary of the South Tangerang branch of the organization, known as MUI.

The South Tangerang administration is planning to distribute 12,500 condoms to sex workers as HIV infections continue to rise across Indonesia.

Abdul Rozak, however, said that MUI rejected the idea because it was contrary to the city’s motto of being smart, modern and religious.

He claimed that distributing free condoms would increase the number of female sex workers in the city.

“We’re pessimist that the distribution of contraception would prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS,” he said. “There are many ways to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS, but not by giving them contraception.”
