Police in Tangerang on the outskirts of Jakarta have released the identity of two males who were killed when the motorcycle they were illegally riding across a runway was struck by a plane on Monday morning.

Adjutant First Insp. Mucthar AR from Legok Police told Detik.com that the men were Azumar, 24, an employee, and Yopie Hermawan, 16, a student from Bhakti Vocational Senior High School.

The pair were killed on impact after illegally entering the grounds of Budiarto Airport in Curug and attempting to take a short-cut across the runway.

Their attempt coincided with the landing of a single-engine Socata TB-10 Tobago training aircraft.

The two people aboard the plane were also seriously injured. They were rushed to Siloam Hospital in Karawaci for treatment after the unusual accident, which occurred at 8:30 a.m.

The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) has sent a team to investigate the crash.

“We have sent a team of five to the crash location. The head investigator is Toos Sanityoso. It was an accident,” KNKT spokesman JA Barata was reported as saying.
