The widow of businessman Nasrudin Zulkarnaen said on Tuesday that her husband was a close friend of former antigraft czar Antasari Azhar, the suspected mastermind behind the businessman’s execution-style death in March.

“My husband had a close relationship with Antasari [ever] since he was installed as the chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission,” said Sri Martuti, Nasrudin’s first wife.

She appeared at the South Jakarta District Court on Tuesday to testify in the murder trial of police officer Wiliardi Wizar, a key defendant in the case.

According to Martuti, Nasrudin told her that Antasari had promised him Rp 1.5 billion ($158,000) from a project in Kolaka district in Southeast Sulawesi.

“And he promised me Rp 500 million if the project was successful,” Martuti told the court.

She said Nasrudin had told her very little about the project.

“It’s from Antasari and he said the project is halal,” Martuti quoted her husband as having told her.

“I don’t know anything about the project in Kolaka, nor do I know its connection with Antasari,” she testified.

Martuti burst into tears when she was shown the automobile her husband was in when he was gunned down near a golf club in Tangerang on March 14.

The BMW, which was brought to the court as evidence, appeared just as it did immediately after the attack, with broken windows and blood on the backseat .

Nasrudin’s former driver, Suparmin, who was driving the car on the day of the attack, also testified on Tuesday.

He testified that he had driven Nasrudin to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) offices at least five times during working hours, but said he did not know who the businessman had met there.

“Nasrudin went alone during all his visits to the KPK and I don’t know if he brought [along] any documents,” Suparmin said.

Nasrudin’s second wife, Irawati Arinda, failed to appear in court as a witness. Prosecutors rescheduled her testimony for the next court session, on Thursday.

Four key defendants — Wiliardi, Antasari, businessman Sigid Haryo Wibisono and alleged middleman Jerry Hermawan Lo — are on trial for plotting the murder. Antasari is accused of ordering the murder after Nasrudin threatened to make public his love affair with Nasrudin’s third wife, caddie Rani Juliani, according to prosecutors.

Five other men accused of carrying out the murder are being tried separately at the Tangerang District Court.
