Some Jakarta high school students arrived to class as early as 6 a.m. today to make sure they were in time for the start of the annual national exam.
“I was afraid something would happen, like a traffic jam. I don't want
to be late for the exam so I came two hours early,” Mia, a student at SMAN 70 national high school in Bulungan, South Jakarta, told SCTV.
“For a number of subjects like math and physics, it is very hard."
Mia took extra classes and private tutoring to prepare for the exam.
Education Minister Mohammad Nuh said the exams had been distributed to schools without incident.
“Thank God, everything went well,” he said during an inspection at SMAN 70. “We have prepared heavy security at all points. It would be very hard to try and leak the problems."
The national exams have been plagued by various forms of cheating by students and teachers, including stolen exam sheets and leaked answers.
