The National Mandate Party (PAN) has received the resignation letter of actor-turned-politician Dede Yusuf.

Yusuf Macan Effendi, known as Dede Yusuf, ran for deputy governor on a National Mandate Party (PAN) ticket in 2008.

Responding to the media about whether he would join the Democratic Party last week, Dede said with a smile: “‘Continue!’ explains itself, right? You make the interpretation.”

“Continue!” was the slogan made popular by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in his re-election bid.

“We have received Dede Yusuf's resignation letter on Friday,” the head of PAN's political communications division, Bima Arya Sugiarto, said on Monday.

“PAN will process the letter as soon as possible,” he said, adding that the letter was addressed to PAN chairman Hatta Rajasa.

“Pak Hatta is currently in a cabinet meeting in Cipanas with President SBY [Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono]. He already knew about Dede's resignation,” Bima said.

Meanwhile, Dede said he had consulted God in his prayers on the decisions he had made.

“We ask for God’s blessings for everything in our lives, especially when it comes to developing West Java province,” he said.

Dede refused to comment on whether his move was related to the Democratic Party’s plan to elect a West Java chapter chief in June. If Dede were elected, it would benefit his run for governor on behalf of the Democrats in 2013.
