Papua. Three police officers were killed and another two are missing feared dead after they plane they were in crashed on Wednesday after a mission to deliver aid to victims of the Wasior disaster in West Papua.
National Police Spokesman Insp. Gen. Iskandar Hasan said the plane was found on Thursday and three bodies had been recovered from the crash site in Wami, Wanggar district.
““We are still looking for the remaining two crew members,” Iskandar said.
The Skytruck plane was piloted by Adjutant Comr. Irwan and co-piloted by First Insp. Bayu. The three crew members were named as Second Insp. Mohamad Amri, First Brig. Hadirianto and First Brig. Aipul Bahri.
The plane was flying from Nabire to Jakarta on Wednesday after delivering aid to the victims of Wasior floods. It was scheduled to make brief stops in Ambon and Makassar.
“After the plane refueled in Nabire, it took off at 3:55 local time. At 4:30 p.m. the plane lost contact,” Iskandar said.
On Thursday morning, locals in Wami reported finding a plane wreck to the police.
“We believe bad weather was to blame for the accident,” Iskandar said.
