Emporium Mall Pluit in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, was still closed on Thursday after a massive fire broke out in the mall's basement on Wednesday night.

The fire started at 7 p.m. in a Carrefour supermarket. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

The mall's spokeswoman, Priscilia Moningka, said three security guards had been injured in the blaze.

The fire was extinguished by noon on Thursday, but smoke continued to pour out of the building. Officers from the North Jakarta Fire Department and Disaster Management office were still trying to disperse the smoke on Thursday.

Priscilia said the mall will be closed indefinitely.

“Firemen are still on location to blow the smoke out. We don't know how long it will take so we can't tell when the mall will be reopened,” Priscilia told the Jakarta Globe.
