430445Bravo! More arrests (and actual prosecution) such as this, be it in narcotics or other crimes, would eventually raise the image and repute of the Indonesian police, at home and abroad.

A National Police officer was arrested during a drug bust on Friday along with Putri Aryanti Haryowibowo, the great-granddaughter of former President Suharto.
The head of the Jakarta Police’s Anti-Narcotics Directorate, Sr. Comr. Anjan Pramuka Putra, confirmed the arrests on Sunday, adding that police did not suspect Putri of operating as a drug dealer.
Anjan said the arrested police officer was an adjutant senior commissioner who worked at National Police headquarters, but declined to provide any further details.
The arrests occurred at Maharani Hotel in South Jakarta, where police said 22-year-old Putri was arrested for possession of 0.8 of a gram of crystal methamphetamine and ecstasy pills.
“She has only been arrested for illegal drug possession,” Anjan said, adding that police were continuing their interrogation of the arrested officer to determine if anyone else was involved.
Following Putri’s arrest and questioning, police also busted a drug dealer from whom they said they seized 20 grams of crystal methamphetamine.
“From that dealer, we arrested three more people,” Anjan said. “In total we have arrested five suspects, seized 30 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 500 ecstasy pills. Police are still investigating this case.”
A separate raid took place on Sunday at a Yamaha garage in the Wisma Harapan complex in Jatiuwung, Tangerang.
The garage was being used as a drug storage warehouse. Police seized 40 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, with a street value of around Rp 14 billion ($1.6 million), plus thousands of Nimetazepam, or “Happy Five,” pills and tranquilizers.
Brig. Gen. Arman Depari, head of the National Police’s Anti-Narcotics Directorate, said the raid was the result of a month of intensive investigation and interrogations from Aceh to Lampung, which led to the arrest of a suspect identified as F.E. in Jakarta.
“We have been investigating a drug syndicate allegedly operated by F.E., a convict at Salemba Penitentiary in Central Jakarta,” Arman said. “We have arrested four suspects in this Tangerang case so far. The drugs were found on the second floor of the garage.”
“F.E. works in collaboration with a major drug syndicate in Malaysia. We nearly got hold of members of this syndicate but they avoided arrest during raids in Medan and Jakarta,” he added.
The weekend’s drug busts come after a spate of recent arrests of celebrity drug suspects and narcotics raids in penitentiaries across the country.
Earlier this month, police arrested three top officials at Besi Penitentiary on Nusakambangan Island, including the warden, over a string of drug-related charges.
The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and officers from the Cilacap Police arrested the warden, the head of security and the prisoner education head on the prison island off the coast of Central Java. Brig. Gen. Benny Mamoto, a director at the BNN, said the warden would be charged with money-laundering for taking bribes to allow prisoners to run an international trafficking ring from his facility.
