how does the indonesian govt sit back and look at such so called "leaders" like Mansur running provinces and saying stuff that make sense only to jailbirds.

it is time the govt woke up and smell the coffee and see the country wont progress further with such adolescent and twisted "human beings".

I think both Ramli Mansur and his supporter Agus Setiyawan need to see a psychiatrist today. Only men with very dirty minds think about raping a woman all the times. I love to see pretty and sexy women, and I surely do admire them. But that's all. There is nothing wrong with men admiring pretty and sexy women. But believe me, none of them has a twisted mind like your's of wanting to rape the women. Seriously, both of you need to see a psychiatrist today for a treatment before it is too late.

when are ignorant people going to grasp the thought that women and their trousers are not ones to blame in rape cases. it's not how women are dressed, it's how perverted men think and do. i mean, what will be the end of it? what if a woman wore a full, long hijab and muslim clothes, and still ignited dirty thoughts from men and provoked them to rape? will the law tell the woman to wear a michelin man costume then?

There are big flaws in your comment agus. First, you can depend on the accuracy of information from the US, while you cannot easily trust figures from Iran. I saw a documentary once. A girl was repeatedly raped by her uncle. When she told the Police, they decided to bring her to trial and sentenced her to death for 'exposing herself to prostitution and tempted her uncle'. Where is the logic in that statement ? She was hanged 3 days later and her uncle was set free as a noble man.

Secondly, how can you compare rape to freesex ? At least there is no force used in freesex, and both parties agreed on the action. You have absolutely no rights to judge a person based on his/her sexual preferences. You are not automatically better by not performing freesex.

Third, noone in this world..not a single female being is asking to get raped, in ANY condition. Nor can you decide who deserves to be raped. That is just twisted and inhuman. You might need to check your sanity by the time you think that.

Agus Setiyawan - what exactly do you mean by free sex. Do you mean where you don't have to pay for it ?

Whether a woman wears trousers or not has nothing to do with her sexual habits, which are none of your bloody business anyway.

Most of the posters here are talking of freedom - you talk of servitude and slavery - you are the ones with the problems.

It is you religious hardliners that need to be controlled.... it is you religious hardliners that need laws to keep you in your place and stop infecting people....it is you religious hardliners that should live in fear of the rattan stick..

Jakarta. The Indonesian Council of Ulema have rejected comments from West Aceh district head Ramli Mansur that woman who fail to wear Islamic clothing are “asking to be raped.”

Amidhan, chairman of the council, also known as MUI, said there was “no such thing” in Islam.

“A scantily-clad women might trigger certain thoughts in a young man’s head but it doesn’t mean that she’s asking to get raped.”

Ninik Rahayu, deputy chairwoman of the National Commission on Violence Against Women, criticized the West Aceh bylaw that prohibits women from wearing tight clothing, including pants.

“Even if a woman wears a ragged sack as clothing, men with perverted thoughts will still want to rape her,” she said.

Ninik said the bylaw was an attempt to discriminate against women.

“Why does the state, or in this case regional government, have to regulate how a woman has to dress herself?” she asked.

The Jakarta Globe Facebook and Twitter communities, meanwhile, reacted with outrage and open hostility to Ramli’s comments.

“What a douchebag, wrote Pratomo Hartono on the Globe’s Facebook fan site. “Whoever said that should go kill himself with a fork.

Nino Candra, also on Facebook, described Ramli’s answers to a sit-down interview with Globe journalist Dewi Kurniawati as “idiotic.”

“I do pity Mr. Mansur for the narrow-mindedness.”

“A man who says such things has perverted fantasies in his mind,” noted Yoshua Budin on the social networking site.

Jodi Baskoro said he believed Ramli regarded women has little more than "chunks of meat without feeling,” adding that she dared the politician for the sake of women in the world to study different perspectives and "learn to respect."

Selena Tiedoll, also on Facebook wrote: “Yes, I agree women should dress properly, but asking to be raped? Women get raped because it’s their fault? You must tell men to control their lust, too! Even if all women wear burqa, but the man is very horny, rape will still occur anyway....”

The Globe’s Twitter community was also incredulous, with one member simply stating that Ramli’s comments were “crazy.”
