Justice Minister Patrialis Akbar will head the selection committee for new Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) leaders, according to a release published on the Cabinet Secretariat Web site.
"The [committee] was formed considering that the tenure of the Corruption Eradication Commission leaders 2007-2011 period will end in December [and by law] the Government is mandated to form a selection committee," the Web site said.
The team consists of 13 people, including Partrialis, and will be responsible for the registration of candidates and announcing them to the public before making a selection and submitting them to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
On Tuesday, anti-graft activists slammed delays in the selection of KPK leaders, emphasizing that the deadline for candidate registration had already lapsed.
Patrialis said on Tuesday that he expected for the committee to commence work in June.
The team includes members of the previous selection committee — including (Ret.) Insp. Gen. MH Ritonga and former Supreme Court judge H Soeharto, who have been named as deputies to Patrialis. Achmad Ubb has been reappointed as committee secretary.
Ichlasul Amal from Gajah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Akhiar Salim from the University of Indonesia, businessman Rhenald Kasali and former KPK deputy Erry Riyana Hardjapamekas will again be members of the selection committee.
New members to the committee are University of Indonesia criminologist Ronny Nitibaskara, Andalas University legal expert Saldi Isra, former National Commission for Public Prosecution chairman Amir Hasan Ketaren, political analyst Imam Prasodjo and Deliana Sajut Ismudjoko.
