I think you all dont understand this country is governed by Jungle Law. SBY is the president only for 2 terms. Unlike Lee kuan Yew (who's PAP "owns" singapore just like the old GOLKAR did), SBY has to deal with alot of oppositions. The oppositions are given seats at the DPR for free.

Imagine you are SBY, you can only serve maximum 2 terms as president, would you dare to piss off all politicians? what would happen to you after you are NOT the president?

Those minister that You FIRE will surely try to "take revenge" after your 2 terms is up.

USA President will always be backed up by his party after he is done (only 2 party in the usa).

Lee kuan Yew is always be backed up by PAP (always won election for the last 40 years).

Who can guarantee Democratic party will win next year?

Would you (as SBY) dare to face the wrath of 100 other political party after your term is up? what about your sons and daughter? would you risk them facing those people's wrath?

Remember "here" jungle law rules.

yes shaun; that is the dilema here; you have to select political opponents into your cabinet and that is just NEVER going to work. If you take your own people only (which might be 50%-ers too) you cant pass anything at the DPR level because you dont have the majority there.

great comments.... I think that the main issue is still missing though- regardless of one's belief in why PKS would say that it is a distraction or not is besides the point... the main point is that the President is responsible for his ministers. Is he not the one who appointed them? Did he not chair cabinet meetings? (are there updates given to the President in these meetings? Isn't he a former General? Shouldn't he be accountable for his "men"?)

Distraction or not, planned or not, it is a shame to see the President publicly berate his own people- regardless of their political party... he chose them... should he have wanted a more "loyal" cabinet that he could berate (since he would have been able to trust them) he should have stocked it with PD people.. he had a mandate right?

Similar to the US- When Weinergate came out what did President Obama say--- He said that he would expect Weiner to resign. Where has the President been in saying Nazaruddin should resign? He is still the head of the party.

Its sad- SBY is a great statesman and needs to "man-up" and stop playing politics and stop trying to get someone else from PD positioned to win in 2014 and start being the President that the outside world thinks he is and the Indonesian people are disappointed he is not. He has great skills... use them!

I think PKS is the one who tried to distract the reshuffle news...

The Prosperous Justice Party said the Democratic Party was attempting to distract attention from the ongoing Muhammad Nazaruddin scandal by once again raising the specter of a cabinet reshuffle by the president.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono upbraided his cabinet on Thursday, accusing them of failing to carry out even 50 percent of his directives. Some Democratic Party officials have voiced they would support a reshuffle of underperforming ministers.

The party's deputy secretary general, Saan Mustopha, said on Friday that fellow Democrats could understand the president's vocal display of anger during Thursday's cabinet plenary.

“It is better for the president to reshuffle them rather than [let them] become a burden,” Saan told the Jakarta Globe.

However, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) said the reshuffle idea was merely a tactic to distract the public from the growing graft case in which fugitive Democrat lawmaker Nazaruddin is a prime suspect.

“The reshuffle idea initiated by the Democrats will surely be the new hot and controversial issue but as always, we can't make head or tail of this,” PKS deputy secretary general Mahfudz Siddiq said.

“I think what will happen is the distraction of issues from the legal case [Nazaruddin's] to a reshuffle,” he said.
