This powers given to police are being misused. Why should some one be held in detention for so long, as the crime committed is non violent and there is hardly any risk of he running away. Nor is he a terrorist suspect or a armed robber suspect. There should be proper guidelines based on which crime the police can detain a person for how long. Or the laws must be reformed and changed. Holding a person in jail before trial, for months for any crime amounting to misuse and abuse of human rights.

Peterpan frontman Nazriel “Ariel” Irham’s detention period in prison has been extended.

Ariel, a suspect in the Peterporn Internet sex tapes scandal along with actress Luna Maya and presenter Cut Tari, is currently being detained by police under the 2008 Anti-Pornography Law, Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE) Law and sections of the Criminal Code covering public indecency.

National Police spokesman Comr. Marwoto Soeto also said that police were also considering detaining Cut Tari, who along with Luna has been named a suspect but has not been taken into custody because she had been cooperative and was classified as a “victim” of Ariel’s.

“It is possible that Cut Tari will be placed in house detention or city detention,” Marwoto said.

Last week, police named Luna and Cut as suspects in the case a day after they offered separate public apologies.

Luna, Ariel’s current girlfriend, apologized “for all the unpleasant news about me” during an interview on Metro TV.

“I would like to apologize to my family and everyone,” she said. “I hope that this matter is solved in a peaceful way and no one will be left disadvantaged by the case.”

On the same day, Cut spoke with reporters from several media outlets at a news conference held at the office of her lawyer, Hotman Paris Hutapea.

A sobbing Cut said: “I would like to apologize to my husband and would like to thank him for always standing beside me when I am in trouble.”
