Since when after an assault has taken place does police questioning of the victim constitute 'only general questioning, not for the official investigation report'? So what happened by the hospital bed today? A few policeman dropped by with a bag of grapes and a get well card?

When does questioning by the police become official?

This could be interpreted as a move by the police to get information from Tama Satrya Langkun, and on the basis of what he disclosed today, work out a strategy for dealing with the case.

I hope he had a lawyer present when this bedside visit took place and a tape recording made of it. And he shared the grapes around.

Don't you just know that this will become muddy and that the perpetrators, the real ones, will not be discovered.

SBY said that there may be a third party who's aim is to discredit the police. I really would appreciate somebody explaining to me who that could possibly be and what their motives might be?

The condition of badly beaten anticorruption activist Tama Satrya Langkun has improved enough for him to provide police with an official statement regarding the brutal attack.

Tama, from Indonesia Corruption Watch, was being treated at the Asri Hospital in Pasar Minggu, just 500 meters from where he was attacked early on Thursday morning, before he was transferred to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital for a magnetic resonance imaging brain scan.

“After a full examination and full-body scan, doctors found no problems or dangerous conditions so we agreed to continue treatment at Asri Hospital,” ICW deputy coordinator Adnan Topan told Kompas.com.

South Jakarta Police on Friday began questioning Tama about the attack by four men riding two motorcycles.

“Tama had been questioned by the police on Thursday but it was only general questioning, not for the official investigation report,” Adnan said. “Besides, yesterday his condition was still very bad and he was in a shock. But today he’s getting better and is ready for questioning.”

Tama also received a visit from Judicial Mafia Task Force member Ahmad Santosa.

“We are very concerned with violence against activists ... We hope the police to take swift action and arrest the perpetrators,” Ahmad said. “I think the National Police have a very big interest in determining who is responsible for the beating.”

Tama was one of the ICW activists who provided the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) with details of millions of dollars allegedly stashed in the bank accounts of a number of police generals.

Tempo magazine, which published details of the allegations on June 28, including naming the generals, was firebombed but no major damage was caused.

The police have been forced to deny suggestions that they were involved in both attacks and have asked the public for understanding while they investigate both incidents.

Police are yet to take any action against the police officers identified by ICW and Tempo.
