Bogor Police are questioning 10 people in connection with the death of an 18-year-old student on Sunday apparently from hazing activities.

Wisnu Anjar, a new student at state-owned academy STSN Ciseeng in Bogor, died on Sunday morning on his way to a hospital, after apparently being beaten up during his school’s orientation program. Bogor Police Chief Detective Adj. Comr. Santoso said the school head, the head of the committee for the orientation program and senior students were being questioned in relation to the case.

According to a family member who declined to be named, Wisnu participated in the orientation activities, which included various physical challenges. The relative added that Wisnu fell ill twice during the orientation period but forced himself to continue participating.

Kusmayanto, the victim’s father, suspects that his son was a victim of violence by senior students, saying that his son did not have any pre-existing medical conditions.

The autopsy revealed hematoma, or collection of blood outside the blood vessels, in various parts of Wisnu’s body, including the arms, feet, armpits, chest and hip.

Meanwhile, the head of STSN, Tuhu Trimurti, said there was no violence during the orientation program, but that the school would investigate the case. If any violent acts were discovered to have taken place, he said, the institution would not hesitate to punish the culprits according to the regulations.
