Police have not yet confirmed if Luna Maya could be charged under the Electronic Transaction and Information (ITE) Law after the Indonesian Journalists Association reported the actress to Jakarta Police over an outburst on Twitter where she called entertainment reporters “lower than prostitutes.”
“We are still studying the case,” said Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rafli Amar on Monday.
Luna’s lawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea said the association’s report to police was “very weak.”
“The criminal report against Luna Maya will come to a dead end because one of the main elements of a crime was not fulfilled. The defamation target, or the victim, is not clear because Luna Maya did not mention any specific names or a legal institution,” Hotman said.
The journalists association reported Luna Maya to the police on Thursday for violating the ITE Law after she posted a message on microblogging site Twitter. In the message posted on Tuesday night, she wrote: “Infotainment are LOWER than PROSTITUTES, MURDERERS!!!!! May your soul burn in hell!!!” Luna closed her Twitter account soon afterwards.
