The National Police will summon the chairman of the Democratic Party, Anas Urbaningrum, as a witness in defamation and slander case.

"Anas wil be summoned next Wednesday as  the witness who filed the report," National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Anton Bachrul Alam said.

Anas Urbaningrum officially lodged a police report against graft fugitive Muhammad Nazaruddin, on July 5, 2011.

The report was filed on behalf of Anas by his lawyer, Patra M. Zen, at National Police Headquarters

"He could be charged under law No. 11/2008 on Electronic Information and Transactions article 27 and Criminal Code articles 310 and 311," Patra said, adding that if found guilty Nazarrudin could be imprisoned for six years and fined up to Rp 1 billion ($115,000).

National Police deputy chief detective Insp. Gen. Mathius Salempang said the police would be diligent in following up on the report.

"Off course we will proceed with any public report to us properly. Including the Democratic Party's report against him [Nazarudddin]," Mathius said on Tuesday.
