Jakarta. Following a series of power outages last week, the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, suffered yet another blackout on Friday morning. This left passengers scrambling to get information about their flights, with some of them unable to make it in time for takeoff.

Chandra, a passenger originally booked on a Lion Air flight to Yogyakarta at 6:15 a.m., said that he missed three flights because of long queues and lack of information.

“I missed my original flight because the check-in queue was so long,” Chandra told the Jakarta Globe.

“Finally, I could check in for 8 a.m., but the officer told me to go to Gate A5 to pay for the airport tax. There was another long queue and I missed my flight again.

“After that, I was sent to Counter 24 to check in for the 9:40 a.m flight, but until now, there has been no further information about the flight and I missed it. Again.”

Chandra complained about poor information dissemination at the airport. “Nobody knows about rescheduled flight times. Nobody knows where I should go to fly to Yogyakarta. And I'm hungry,” Chandra said, adding that he had been on his feet since 5:15 a.m. because the waiting area was packed with people waiting.

He added that the long queue was because flight check-ins were done manually, as the computers were offline.

Sudaryanto, the corporate secretary of airport management company Angkasa Pura II, said, however, that the blackout did not hamper flight activities.

“We are using generator set so it has not affected any flights,” Sudaryanto told online news portal Kompas.com.
