Coins donated for Prita Mulyasari, totaling Rp 650 million ($68,349), will be handed over to Bank Indonesia on Wednesday to be counted and exchanged.
The coins were being transported from the main headquarters of the Coins for Prita movement in South Jakarta to the central bank’s building on Jalan Budi Kemulyaan in Central Jakarta using a large truck.
Prita arrived at the movement’s headquarters at around 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning. She was accompanied by her son.
The headquarters was full of volunteers who had dedicated themselves to the movement for the past three weeks, as well as a number of officers from the central bank and Bank Mandiri. The bank officers put the coins into white sacks.
After the coins are counted at Bank Indonesia, the money will be deposited into a new account for Prita at Bank Mandiri. Prita said that she did not want the money to be deposited into her present account to avoid unpleasant rumors.
The money will be donated to help people who are undergoing similar legal ordeals to Prita.
