About 50 demonstrators staged a rally outside the Corruption Eradication Commission on Thursday to demand the immediate arrest of lawmaker Jhonny Allen Marbun for allegedly taking a bribe.

“Detain Jhonny Allen for his alleged part in a bribery case in the construction of piers and airports in eastern parts of Indonesia,” the rally’s orator, Cilo, said.

Late last year, the Anti-Corruption Court found former lawmaker Abdul Hadi Djamal, from the National Mandate Party (PAN), guilty of corruption and sentenced him to three years in jail for his role in the Rp 3 billion ($330,000) bribery scandal.

“The Corruption Eradication Commission must also try Jhonny Allen,” he told the court.

Abdul claimed all the money went to Jhonny, from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s ruling Democratic Party, and that he only acted as mediator and delivery person.

He alleged Jhonny had received Rp1 billion through his personal assistant, Resco.

Jhonny has been questioned by the KPK but no charges were ever laid.

Cilo said efforts to eradicate corruption must be undertaken no matter who the suspects were and must not be politically motivated.

“The policy of eradicating corruption cases selectively will only give rise to a motion of non-confidence,” he said, adding that it had the potential to harm the government’s image and disrupt national stability.
