@22 roes: While failing to honor signed contracts and meet deadlines is all too common in Indonesians, especially when one of the parties involved in the contract is a foreigner. I think both sides are probably at fault here.

A major Malaysian event promoter has canceled a planned visit by football giants PSV Eindhoven and launched a scathing attack on the management of football in Indonesia.

In a statement obtained by the Jakarta Globe, Saujana Media said it had postponed the planned visit by the Dutch club “indefinitely” due to the current crisis within the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) and the lack of a credible Indonesian team for the match.

A Web site dedicated to PSV Eindhoven, meanwhile, blamed the cancellation on the promoters, saying it had failed to meet a Dec. 23 deadline to provide the club with a bank guarantee.

Saujana Media, which promotes itself as a diversified company specializing in sports, television and media, said it was “regrettable” the PSSI had failed to deliver on a signed contract to deliver the best Indonesian football players.

The company intimated that it had suffered financial losses from the fiasco and said the affair would have “more serious repercussion for Indonesia.”

“Top European teams would now be sceptical before agreeing to play in Indonesia and event organizers would also be wary of the higher risks posed by the instability of the PSSI,” the statement says.

“Jakarta as a future destination for such events is certainly in doubt. And the cancellation would deprive the young and uprising players in Indonesia from learning from top professional players.”

The company also apologized to “the tens of thousands of Indonesian football fans, who were looking forward to witnessing a top class event in the New Year.”
