The bodies of two Australian soldiers who went missing on the island of Borneo in 1966 will be returned to their native country soon.
Lieutenant Kenneth Hudson and Private Robert Moncrieff were conducting border security operations during the Indonesia-Malaysia Confrontation in 1966 when they failed to meet up with their patrol, according to the Australian Department of Defence.
The Australian Army formed a team to find the men's remains in 2008. With help from the Indonesian military, they discovered the men had been swept away while crossing a river in West Kalimantan.
The bodies had been provided "respectful burials" by local residents, the department said in a statement, adding that it was "the same Indonesians who helped the team locate the burial sites and recover the remains."
The men will be buried with military honors in Australia.
