Fear of her parents’ wrath over spending tuition money prompted Nadia Dwi Rachma to run away from home in late October, Jakarta Police said on Friday.

Nadia, 22, a fourth-year-student at Trisakti University was reported missing on Oct. 24 by her parents. The police found her on Thursday at a boarding house in Semarang, Central Java. She was reunited with her family this morning.

“Her motive to run away from home was because she felt guilty for not being able to finish her degree in October. It got delayed because she spent her school’s tuition fee,” Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Baharudin Djafar said.

“The money was around Rp 3 million ($334) but it scared her so much and she felt guilty.”

Baharudin said Nadia had planned her escape to Semarang from September. She chose Semarang because she had been there once before and her ex-boyfriend lived there.

Nadia, however, claimed that she did not get to see her ex-boyfriend.

She boarded a train to Central Java’s capital city and went straight to a boarding house she had found on the Internet.

Nadia applied for jobs as a waitress and a flight attendant in Semarang.

“She applied for the jobs, but she did not get any,” Baharudin said.

Nadia is still at the Jakarta Police Headquarters with her parents.

Her father, Tri Wahyudadi, expressed his gratitude for everyone who had helped in the search for his daughter.

“I’m very happy. I am grateful for the media and the National Police and I apologize because my child had caused so many troubles,” Tri said.
