Correction to my comment below; - it should read "...is definitely NOT in the public domain.." I was listening to Mozart when I wrote that - and was distracted by its beauty.

General Knowledge Test

Q 1.

Which one of the song titles below is included on Volume 3 of The World's Greatest Voices?

a)Una Furtiva Lacrima

b)Shenandoah

c)Tramp Tramp Tramp

d)Road to the Isles

Can you answer that? Of course you can't because its not General Knowledge - it's only for people who are interested in that kind of music.

Is it presumed that everyone in Indonesia likes and has rushed out and bought SBY's third album?

I don't. I haven't.

Its not a fair question, because it's not General Knowledge. General knowledge is in the public domain.

SBY's music is, lamentable as it might be, definitely in the public domain. Why - millions of Indonesians couldn't even afford to buy one of his CDs!

Jakarta. With 3,000 candidates vying for just 164 positions at the Ministry of Trade, getting the right answers on the recruitment test was always going to be vitally important.

Imagine the surprise of many of the applicants, therefore, when they were confronted with the following multiple-choice question in the general knowledge segment of the exam: “Which one of the song titles below is included on President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s third album?”

Anita, one of the candidates who took the examination at Senayan Indoor Stadium in Jakarta on Tuesday, told news portal Okezone that the question was the most difficult to answer.

“I got a headache choosing the answer,” she said, adding that she knew Yudhoyono had released several albums but she had never expected such a question to appear on the exam.

“Two of my friends who also took the test didn’t know the song title either,” she said.

Trade Ministry spokesman Robert James Bintaryo told the Jakarta Globe he did not know anything about the question because the exam had been compiled by a special team.

“Now my question is, what is wrong if a general knowledge question is about Pak SBY’s song?” Robert asked.

“It’s part of the general knowledge questions. There were 30 or 40 questions in that section and the song title was only one question.”

He added: “I can assure you, there is no hidden agenda behind the question.”

Presidential spokesman Heru Lelono said Yudhoyono knew nothing about the question.

“As for the question itself, I see nothing wrong with it, but there are many other better, alternative questions for a general knowledge test for civil officers,” Heru said.

“Is it really important to ask civil officer candidates about the song?”

The results will be announced on Tuesday, followed by psychological tests and interviews.
