Wow, those guys get to travel a lot, to very fancy places, to talk about the Environment. Planes, (no trains) and (luxury) automobiles.

Wonder what the Energy needs are to arrange all of this talking.

And their Air conditioned super-deluxe suites in Nusa Dua...My my my.

'SBY Calls On World to Resolve Climate Impasse' because he can't even sort out his own back yard. Metro Mini, Kopaja, Bajaj all spurting out noxious gases. Ring any bells Pak Prez? Is this a case of 'don't do what I do, but do what I say?' Your environment is a mess, Pak.

Nusa Dua, Bali. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Wednesday urged world leaders to use the current United Nations meeting here to resolve the deadlock on climate change before heading to the next summit in Mexico this year.

Officials from 130 countries gathered in Bali this week for the UN Environment Program’s 11th Governing Council meeting, which ends on Friday, to discuss sustainable development, green economics and biodiversity.

There will also be an informal ministerial meeting held here today — the first after the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen at the end of last year — to discuss ongoing negotiations and to prepare for the next round of talks in November.

The Copenhagen summit was criticized by environmentalists because the outcome reached, known as the Copenhagen Accord, did not bind the international community to fulfill greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets, as had been expected.

“We cannot wait any longer,” Yudhoyono said in his speech at the Bali conference. “We need to finalize the climate-change negotiations at the Mexico climate talks by end of this year.

“I hear that there will be an informal meeting in Bali concerning the issue and I urge all of you to use this forum to find the best solution.”

The president also reminded the participants that they had already made commitments to slash greenhouse gas emissions here in Bali at the 2007 UN Climate Change Conference.

“However, even until now we have not fulfilled those commitments. But I think that we’re still not too late to do our best to save this world,” he said.

“The global economic crisis and financial recession not only impacted our development, but also our ability to deal with environmental issues … which left us with questions about whether the [development] model that we have used all this time is suitable considering the conditions and global needs.

“It turns out that we need to redesign the development model and strategy in aiming to encourage real economic development. But at the same time, we will need to pay attention to the level of environmental destruction.”

At the conference, the UN also presented Yudhoyono with a UNEP Award for Leadership in Promoting Oceans and Marine Conservations and Management.

The award acknowledges the president’s commitment to preserve the region’s coral reefs.
