The Corruption Eradication Commission has uncovered more of suspended chairman Antasari Azhar’s alleged misconducts, a source at the commission told the Jakarta Globe on Monday.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source said that police had discovered in Antasari’s home unspecified sums of cash and several dossiers on cases handled by the commission, also known as the KPK. Consequently, he said the KPK would postpone the creation of an ethics committee to investigate Antasari until enough evidence was gathered.

“We also received a lot of claims from members of society alleging they had been extorted by Antasari,” the source said.

Antasari, whose trial for the murder of state firm executive Nasrudin Zulkarnaen is set to begin on Sept. 10, has also been accused of violating the KPK’s internal code of ethics by meeting with people involved in graft investigations, including Nasrudin, who was a KPK witness.

The KPK dossiers found in his home reportedly contained Nasrudin’s reports on two firms being investigated by the commission, PT Putra Rajawali Banjaran and its holding company PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia.

“We are still in the initial stages of our investigation but once we have enough evidence, we are likely to handle the case ourselves or forward it to other law enforcement agencies,” the source said.

Antasari rose to the KPK chief position in 2007 despite his dubious track record as a public prosecutor at the Attorney General’s Office. Critics said Antasari’s appointment was tainted with politics and bribery.
