There's no way that the thugs and incompetent, amoral elites currently misgoverning Indonesia are going to have their gravy train derailed by an .. honest President.

I bet they have made that very clear, especially the industrialists who have deep pockets and no scruples when it comes to getting their way. Indonesia badly needs honest and incorruptible politicians. The problem is that honesty and integrity are always seen as options for soft-headed idealists.

The ruling Democratic Party is playing down the significance of a meeting between former Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Sri Mulyani, appointed World Bank managing director after she was forced from Yudhoyono’s cabinet following a bitter dispute with Golkar Party chairman Aburizal Bakrie, was scheduled to start a meeting with the president at the State Palace at 10 a.m.

After the meeting, Yudhoyono is flying to Bali to inspect preparations for the 19th Asean Summit, which runs from Nov. 17 to 19.

Sri Mulyani arrived in Jakarta on Monday, meeting with her successor, Agus Martowardojo, before delivering a key-note speech at a meeting of Asean finance ministers at the Shangri-La Hotel.

Ahmad Mubarok, a member of the Democrat’s advisory board, told Detik.com that Sri Mulyani’s meeting with Yudhoyono was casual in nature, brushing off suggestions the meeting was part of plans to groom the former minister for a run at the presidency in 2014.

Sri Mulyani was seen as one of the few quality professionals in Yudhoyono’s cabinet before her unceremonious dumping.

She has rejected overtures from at least one aspiring political party to run on its ticket in 2014.

Analysts say it is unlikely Mulyani would run, given the ongoing fallout from the Bank Century bailout scandal and the likely challenge from Bakrie.
