The fate of 12 Indonesian volunteers aboard the humanitarian ship Mavi Marmara carrying aid bound for Gaza remains unknown. The Mavi Marmara was leading a convoy of cargo and passenger ships dubbed as the Freedom Flotilla, which was attempting to ferry relief supplies, along with hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists were also on board.

Israeli Navy commandos stormed the ship on Monday morning, reportedly killing more than 10 passengers in a predawn raid that has brought worldwide condemnation and sparked a diplomatic crisis.

Zainul Bahar, the Indonesian Ambassador to Jordan, said that no Indonesian was killed in the attack.

“As far as I know, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that there was only one Indonesian wounded in the attack. No Indonesian volunteers were killed,” Zainul told news station TVOne.

TVOne on Tuesday reported that they were still unable to contact their reporter, Muhammad Yasin, who last communicated with them while he was still in Cyprus waters. Yasin, a video journalist, had regularly sent updates of the trip. He was unreachable after the attack.

Another volunteer aboard the ship, Nur Ikhwan Abadi from the Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (Mer-C), would regularly communicate with his family every day. His family has not heard from him since Sunday night, when he last sent a text message to his wife, asking her to keep in touch via e-mail.

A teacher from Al Fatah's Islamic College in Bogor, West Java. Ikhwan was a civil engineer who wanted to help other volunteers build a hospital on the Gaza Strip.
