masmon2 - If she is innocent / did not break any laws, then that is a proper defense for her to plead. Tell the judge the evidence isn't good, etc. I don't know why it's at all relevant that she has children or that her husband is jobless? Should people who don't have children get harsher sentences than those that do?

Fanelli - do you know the substance of this case ? seems you feel ok with accusing her of being guilty without probablyu knowing what she has / has not done.

devine: He's not joking. He's just toying with your emotions. And if I can go a little further...from his language, he's NO Muslim. Prove it then if you are. What does the acronym ISLAM stand for. Give you an hour to response.

Actually, Devine...as sad as it may seem, what Moo says is indeed written in our holy book. Corruption is not always Haram. Still I think Moo is being sarcastic, with decent knowledge of the good book.

A former senior Bank Century employee whose criminal case only became public after her daughter wrote a heartfelt plea for commonsense on her blog, presented her closing defense statement to the Central Jakarta District Court on Thursday.

Arga Tirta Kirana, the since rebranded bank’s former corporate legal division head, said she rejected the allegations that she had disbursed a number of problematic credits, called ‘command credits,’ because the funds were withdrawn without her consent.

The prosecution is seeking a 10-year-jail term and Rp 10 billion ($1.2 million).

Arga, mother of teenage activist Alanda Kariza, told the court that, “We are not the one who are responsible or benefited from the case.”

During her 20-minute testimony, Arga was quoted by Detik.com as saying that she was the victim of “injustice in the Bank Century case.”

“I have been tyrannized. Hermanus and Robert Tantular are the ones who are responsible. Why is my sentence demand heavier than both of them? Is the judicial mafia behind this?” Arga asked. “I have been set up to be a victim.”

Tantular, the disgraced former co-owner of the bank, since renamed Bank Mutiara, was sentenced to nine years in jail, while Hermanus Hasan Muslim, a former director, was sentenced to six years.

Arga pleaded with the judge to consider the fate of her children, aged between 5 and 19 years.

“I hope Your Honor will not sacrifice me and really use your conscience in reaching your verdict. There is nothing that worries me more than they fate of my daughters. The youngest is five years old and still in kindergarten, my number two daughter is eight years old and the oldest is 19 and still in college. My husband is jobless after being fired from Bank Century in 2008,” she said.
