Though the vast majority of Indonesia’s 150 richest people managed to substantially increase their fortunes in 2009, Globe Asia magazine reveals in its latest issue that not all the tycoons were winners.

The number one biggest loser, according to the magazine that hits newsstands today, is Hadi Surya, whose shipping company, PT Berlian Laju Tanker, hit troubled waters during the financial crisis in 2008 and posted a loss of $218.36 in 2009.

The 75-year-old, however, will be able to take comfort in the fact that though he dropped from 63rd position in the 2009 Globe Asia Rich List to 80th in the 2010 edition — a net loss of $21 million — he is still worth $181 million.

Second on the list is Rudy Unjoto, who established textile company Daliatex Kusuma in Bandung in 1965. He drops from 85th to 103rd, retaining an estimated wealth of $116 million.

The owner of optical chain Optik Melawi, Budi P. Hadisurjo, was placed 100th on the list with a net worth of $120 million, down $16 million and 17 places from the 2009 Rich List.

Fifth, with a net loss of $13 million on the previous year, is Sugianto, With a wealth estimated at $118 million, Sugianto was embroiled in a legal dispute with his brother, Eka Gunawan, over the ownership of textile company Metro Garmin, which produces clothing for a range of international brands that include Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein.
