My sincere condolences to the family of Sei Young and the brave and selfless guide, pak Ade, who sacrificed his life. May God rest your souls. As a parent of BIS, I know that BIS has always been very serious in students safety. Lets not speculate of what happened. But, I do urge the parents and staffs of BIS organize a fund raising and donate generously to pak Ade's family. Things happened, its time to take care of those who sacrificed.

My condolences to the family of the missing girl and the family of the guide whose deed will never be forgotten. But I don't think we should be blaming anyone without having all the facts. As parents we all take risks to let our children be away from us as part of growing up and hopefully they can be a stronger individual. We can't always blame others but to take part of the blame ourselves. Perhaps we can learn from this. I think we should be praying for our student to be found and keep our bickering for when have the full facts. God bless the families of the guide and our missing child that she may come back to us soon.

As a student at BIS, i myself went to paincawati in Year 8. I myself stood in that same river. The guides there are professional and serious about what they do. And when you live in Indonesia, you should know that things like this happen. It is above human control.

dont you realise that BIS tried everything to try and recover the missing people! And they communicated as best they could given the circumstances. The only reason why they didnt go telling everyone the minute they knew what happened was because they didnt want parents to get into a panic. They were still unsure about the status of the search. they didnt want people to get the wrong idea in their head. so just stop trying to blame someone! Do you ever think they are trying their best? does the idea ever come to you?

Everyone is shocked by this whole ordeal. I have the highest respect for the guide and that his child and wife should always know that he gave his life to help others. This earns him a spot of highest respect from me and my family. And my condolences go to the family. Losing someone close to you is very hard, I may not know what it feels like to loose a daugher, but i know what its like to loose a friend. I hope they will be able to find peace in eachother and that Sei Young is safe and well.

My condolences to the family of the guide and also prayers for the missing student and her family.

Further, in the spirit of what SteveC has noted in his post below, I think it would not be out of place to also note that there appears to be one or two posts which appear to have the intention of disclaiming liability for an on behalf of the school. One hopes this is not the case of a preemptive legal/pr exercise to limit legal exposure.

I would like everyone to take some time to pray for Ade who is now in the hands of God. I would also like to send my deepest condolences to his 8 month pregnant wife, he is a hero and will never be forgotten. I would also like everyone to take the time to pray that Sei Young will return safely.

The British International School have confirmed that two bodies, including one student, have been recovered after a school trek in the Puncak mountains on Tuesday.

BIS admissions director Lee Bretherick said authorities were still formally identifying the bodies and were preparing to release a public statement soon.

Antara are reporting that authorities have recovered the body of Arpan Palindungan Ade, 30, an outdoors instructor in the Cisadane river.

The state news agency also identified the missing student as a South Korean national.

Lee Bretherick, speaking to the Jakarta Globe earlier, said that a year 8 student enrolled with the school had disappeared during a trek in the Pancawati area in the foothills of the mountain range.

Lee said the school was still “not fully aware” of the details surrounding the disappearance but it appeared a “sudden rise in water levels caused the situation to arise.”

He said the school had the full cooperation of West Java authorities and a search was underway, which included the involvement of the Indonesian Military.

Other groups of students from the school had returned to Jakarta and were being offered counseling.

One parent who contacted the Jakarta Globe with news of the emergency said the school’s communication with parents had not been ideal.
