National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Edward Aritonang has confirmed that two men were killed during a raid on by Densus 88 antiterror forces in Cikampek, West Java.

He would not confirm reports that another three men were killed or captured in a second raid in Cawang, East Jakarta, though a senior police source later told the Jakarta Globe that a total of five people had been killed.

Edward said the two bodies, identified only as ‘S’ and ‘M,’ had been taken to the National Police Hospital in East Jakarta.

Another police source told the Jakarta globe that one of the dead men was Saptono, who is believed to have taken over control of the Aceh terror group from his brother, Jaja, the former head of the group who was killed during police operations.

The same source said ‘M’ was Maulana, who has previously been detained under Malaysia’s Internal Security Act.

Police believe at least one of the men is linked to the bombing of the Australian Embassy in Jakarta in 2004.

The Globe has previously reported that at least 25 suspected terrorists related to the group are still at large, including Saptono and Maulana, as well as convicted terrorist Abdullah Sonata, a convicted terrorist, and Abu Yusuf, aka Mustaqim, a graduate of the Hudaibiyah military camp in Mindanao, southern Philippines, operated by the Jemaah Islamiyah regional terrorist network.

The story is developing.
