There is a nice big sign as you arrive at the airport that says, "Welcome to Jakarta. Death for drug traffickers"

Seems this is not enough to deter these idiots.

If the briefcase belonged to "Scotty" surely Scotty would have just "beamed it abord" his hotel room in Jakarta instead of taking the plane.

I'm not sure I believe this excuse..........

This is a bit strange.

Why would somebody try to smuggle marijuana into a country that has mountains of it growing in Sumatra.

Jakarta. Custom officials at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport seized 2.3 kg of marijuana from an American citizen on Thursday.

David BD, 34, was arrested after disembarking from a Cathay Pacific plane from Los Angeles.

Custom official Gatot Sugeng Wibowo said the marijuana was hidden in oatmeal cans and in a detergent pack.

“This is a new modus operandi. The perpetrator is an American citizen. A team from the Customs Tactical Unit and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) are still investigating the case,” Gatot was quoted as saying by news portal Detik.com.

David was arrested at terminal 2D. Custom officials had been watching David since he arrived because his body language was 'suspicious.'

“We examined his briefcase and we found suspicious material inside food cans. Test confirmed that it was marijuana,” Gatot said.

David claimed the briefcase belonged to a friend named Scotty.

“David said the briefcase was Scotty's and claimed that he did not receive anything from Scotty as compensation for carrying it,” he said.

BNN also arrested three other people who were supposed to pick him up.

“Of the three, one is American and two are Indonesian. They are still being questioned,” Gatot said.
