The wife of Ruhut Sitompul reported the outspoken Indonesian politician to police on Monday for allegedly lying about his marital status when he took a second woman as a wife.
“Today, Ibu Anna, who is still the legitimate wife of Ruhut Sitompul ... will report [her husband] to the police,” lawyer Hotman Paris told Detik.com.
Anna Rudhiantiana Legawati claimed that she married the Democratic Party lawmaker in Sydney, Australia, in 1998, but discovered that he had married another woman in 2008.
“This is related to his [second] marriage in which he claimed [to the woman] that he was still a virgin,” Anna said, admitting that she had no idea of where the second marriage took place.
“The woman’s name is Diana.”
She said that Ruhut had not seen their child for 3.5 years.
Ruhut, however, denied the allegation.
“Of course it’s a lie,” he said at the State Palace when asked if he had married another woman.
“I have a wife, and I am married just once.”
