Great justice here - especially if you are connected.

"Aulia was last year sentenced to four years in jail" ...Last March, Aulia Pohan had his four-year jail sentence reduced by one year after an appeal to the Supreme Court...."Patrialis said it was not impossible that with the deductions, they [incl. Aulia] had automatically come to the end of their jail terms"...crime and some good family connections does pay off, it seems! Not that he actually deserved the reduction though...this justice system remains a joke indeed!

100 billion? Right figure or not? Only four years and remissions granted. Come this Christmas, New Year etc., etc., and faster than the blink of an eye he's out, scot free and with 100 billion or.... maybe more. Not bad!

Jakarta. Aulia Pohan, the father-in-law of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s son, is among four former senior Bank Indonesia (BI) officials convicted in a corruption case who have received a remission on their jail sentences on Independence Day this year.

Law and Human Rights Minister Patrialis Akbar, speaking to the press after attending a flag-hoisting ceremony to mark Indonesian Independence Day at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, said Aulia Pohan and three of his former BI colleagues were given the remissions after having served one-third of their prison terms.

Aulia was last year sentenced to four years in jail over his alleged role in the embezzlement of Rp 100 billion ($8.8 million) from a central bank foundation in 2003. The judge had charged Aulia with abuse of power and causing great loss to the state.

Without disclosing the length in terms of months of the remissions Aulia Pohan and his three colleagues had received, Patrialis said it was not impossible that with the deductions, they had automatically come to the end of their jail terms.

Last March, Aulia Pohan had his four-year jail sentence reduced by one year after an appeal to the Supreme Court.

Other high-profile convict who received a remission from the Indonesian government this year were case-broker Artalyta Suryani and Australian marijuana smuggler Schapelle Leigh Corby.

This year the government granted jail sentence remissions to a total of 53,000 convicts nationwide. Of the number, 2,000 would thereby automatically be released from jail.

“All these convicts who include corruptors, terrorists and drug-offenders had met the requirements for obtaining a remission,” Patrialis said.
