The record-seeking “Dream Obama” film project crossed the line triumphantly on Thursday, with the filmmaking team delivering the finished product in a world-fasted nine days, 17 hours and 45 minutes.

The attempt was a full two days quicker than the previous record held by Suresh Joachim of Canada, who made the 2009 film “Sivappu Mazhai” in 11 days, 23 hours and 45 minutes in Chennai, India.

“We are so happy with this achievement,” filmmaker Damien Dematra said at an occasion-marking celebration and ceremony at BlitzMegaplex cinema in Grand Indonesia Shopping Town.

Damien and crew began their record-breaking attempt on March 15, and was closely monitored throughout the lightning-fast production by representatives from Guinness World Records, Royal World Records and the Indonesian Museum of Records (MURI).

Damien said the film was a complicated challenge that involved the coordination of over 800 people on the production.

“It was not easy, but we are glad we made it,” he said, adding he would let the public decide if the movie were good.

Associate producer Debora Imanuella said the editing process had just concluded at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

“We thought we couldn’t make it,” she said, adding that she was very satisfied with the finished product.

Debora said the movie was a national achievement that every Indonesian should be proud of.

“People, especially the young minds, should watch this inspiring movie,” she said.

The movie, which has been roughly edited, was reviewed by the monitors at the theater.

The film will receive a final edit and will be premiered to the public in April or May.

Unlike Damien’s previous movie, “Obama Anak Menteng” (“Obama the Menteng Kid”), “Dream Obama” does not portray US President Barack Obama’s time spent in Indonesia as a child. Instead, the movie is about a boy who is inspired by the Obama statue at his school, Menteng No. 1 Elementary, which the president once attended as a child.

Notable stars appearing in the movie include veteran actors Ayu Azhari, Pong Hardjatmo and Ari Wibowo. Also appearing are Nahdlatul Ulama deputy chairman Slamet Effendy Yusuf, former Justice Minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra, former Miss Indonesia Karenina Sunny Halim and bodybuilder Ade Rai.

Ayu said she was delighted to be a part of the project. She added that she hoped the movie would inspire the younger generations in Indonesia.

Lippo Group, which the Jakarta Globe is affiliated with, assisted with the production.
